# Token Delegation

A Delegate is a trusted member of the Tevaera community, chosen by token holders to represent them in governance decisions. Delegates vote and make decisions on behalf of those who delegate their voting power to them.

### How Delegation Works

Delegating the voting power of your Teva tokens *doesn’t affect ownership*. it simply activates your tokens’ voting power and assigns that voting authority to the address of your choice.

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="Changeable Delegation" %}
Token holders can adjust their delegation at any time on tally. Once delegated, the arrangement will remain in place unless modified by the token holder or if the tokens are transferred to a new address.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Single Address Delegation" %}
Voting power within one wallet must be assigned to a single address, it cannot be split across multiple addresses.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Self-Custody Requirement" %}
Only the token holder can delegate their tokens. Tokens held in wallets on centralized exchanges cannot be delegated.
{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

### Why Delegation is Important

Delegation makes it possible for anyone in the Tevaera community to have voting power without needing to own tokens directly. This inclusive approach enhances participation, strengthening the governance and vision of the Tevaera ecosystem.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.tevaera.com/governance/voting-and-delegation/token-delegation.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
